August brings three new
wineries to Discover California!
Trecini Vineyards, Abundance
Vineyards and White Rock
Vineyards
From
Trecini
Vineyards,
Sonoma County, we have their
award winning
Merlot.
It won
Gold andBest of Class at
this years California State
Fair!
The color of the wine is a deep
red, almost opaque. Your nose
will experience black cherries,
plums, dried cherries, charcoal,
toast, dried herbs, minerals,
all setting into a varietally
correct smell. The palate has a
broad entry followed by a
full-middle based feeling on the
tongue. The wine is balanced and
has a good structure. Lots of
minerals, dustiness, dried
fruits, pomegranate, roasted
nuttiness, jolly ranchers, and
sweet fruits add to a long tasty
finish. In addition, we have
their award winning
Sauvignon
Blanc and
Zinfandel.
White Rock
Vineyards,
Napa Ca., is represented by
their
Napa
Valley Chardonnay
and
Claret.
The Chardonnay delivers floral
and citrus aromas complemented
by sweet toasty oak and a hint
of butter. A richer than usual
vintage in terms of body as well
as fruit. It fills the mouth
with citrus, apricot, and peach
flavors and a long clean finish.
Their 2001 Claret is a very
ripe, not over-ripe vintage.
Fruit flavors are darker than
usual; with black berry and
black cherry as well as plum. It
has a very soft attack. The
Cabernet predominates showing
the tobacco, chocolate, licorice
of White Rock's white volcanic
soils, and the cedar and coffee
aromas of good French oak. All
of this on an earthy base with
the complexity of the Cab
Franc's violet and the petite
Verdot's gamey and briary
aromas.
Last but not least is
Abundance Vineyards
from Lodi, Ca. with their
Syrah, Petite Sirah
and
Pinot Noir.
Their Brick Hill Block Pinot
Noir is from a uniquely situated
vineyard nestled between the
Carneros grape growing district
to the east and the Russian
River Valley appellation to the
northwest, combining the best
attributes of both companions.
The color of the wine is medium
red with slight garnet hue. The
first impression is of dry
cherries, rose petals and dusty
stone. Further aeration reveals
layers of plum, earth, forest
floor and reminiscent of mint.
On the mouth this wine is
balanced with medium weight and
body and a juicy finish. The
overall impression is of well
made, food-friendly wine sure to
please Pinot Noir lovers! The
2004 Petite Sirah is their very
first release and a proud
accomplishment. It is an opulent
blend of 15% Lodi Zinfandel and
85% Lodi Petite Sirah, both from
the Mencarini Vineyards. The
Syrah opens first with a lovely
nose of blackberries, and
further it reveals a background
of plums and blueberries. The
flavors are of the same fruits
with increasing depth and
intensity, while the tannin
profile is multi-layered adding
support and a lasting finish.
