 WINE UPDATE

MAY ‘06

Several new wines have arrived in the past few weeks. Our selection is among the best in the area! (And still growing!). We now offer our customers some of the best wines around. Take a look at the latest additions and plan your next visit soon.

We now carry several Montevina wines in addition to their White Zin. The TDO (Terra D’Oro) labels represent their best wines. They include a Barbera, Sangiovese, Moscato, Syrah, Zinfandel and a field blend SHR Zinfandel. We have had tastings on both the Sangiovese and Syrah with outstanding customer response. The Barbera is on tasting now and is tasting very nice. If you have not tried a Barbera, try it, you’ll like it! These wine are an excellent value.

Montevina is one of the wineries in the foothills that are producing small amounts of Italian varietals. We now offer a Refosco and Teraldego. The Refosco is a medium body wine with a good balance of fruit to tannins. It is a favorite of mine and has been doing well. The Teraldego is a much fuller body wine with a deep purple color. It has a smoky quality to it with chocolate, dark berries and a hint of raspberry. It has been difficult to get and may be gone soon. Both are on the shelf @ $12.99.

The Nebbilio Rosato is made from the same grape the Italian Borolo is made from. It is a great rose wine that makes for great sipping on a hot day @ $10.99. This will appeal to those that find a White Zin too light. We have had this on tasting and it did quite well.  Stock up for the summer.

Bogle is back with us in 4 varieties; Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and an Old Vine Zinfandel. The Chardonnay was a hit on tasting. The Old Vine Zin is very nice @ $14.99.

Indian Springs is also new for us. They have a delicious White Meritage (a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon). A nice semi-dry white that will go well with fish or foul. In addition, we have their Chardonnay (on tasting now) and a 100% Sauvignon Blanc. Both very nice $15.99 and $8.99 respectfully.

Another new winery now with us is Benson Ferry. They are located in Lodi.  We carry 3 of their wines; an Old Vine Zin, Syrah and a Pinot Gris. Their wines are a great value for the price.

Shenandoah Vineyards is a 100% certified organic winery and we now have their White Zinfandel and Black Muscat (this is made from the Black Hamburg grape and is sooooooo good). The response on tasting has been very good. Stop by for a taste of this delicious wine. This is an excellent desert wine for your best guests or just for your best friend. We may bring in additional varieties in the future, stay tuned!

I brought in a few single varieties form different wineries. Some we have had before, some not.

Gladiator Cycles has a great label and a very good Pinot Grigio.

Rancho Zabaco is represented with their Sauvignon Blanc. Very clean and crisp, this will do quite well as your “patio wine”.

The Claret from Nevada City Winery is a blend of 91% cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc and 5% Charbono. It will do well with cellaring a few years or drink it now with a big steak.

Guglielmo has a very good Sangiovese and now we do too. This adds to their great Petite Sirah.

Our new Fume Blanc from Dry Creek Vineyards in Sonoma is a very dry, crisp wine. I tasted it and was very pleased. It would go great with any foul or fish.

A new Pinot Noir from Kali Hart @ $19.99 will be a favorite. Great “ Burgundy ” style with cherries on your palate. This did very well on tasting last week and will have more soon.

In addition to the Syrah from San Simeon Vineyard, we now have their Pinot Noir @ $26.99. Like their Syrah, this Pinot reflects the Monterey county style.

Rancho Sisquoc, Santa Barbara , is another fine Pinot Noir I found and now have it for you. Smooth with a lasting finish, you will definitely like this one @ $33.99

The Maddalena Riesling is a winner. We can barley keep it in stock. Sweet and exciting. It reminds me of biting into a sweet ripe red apple. We also brought back their Cabernet Sauvignon and a Pinot Grigio. Check out the entire Maddalena line.

Seghesio Vineyard’s Sangiovese and Barbera are here. I think you will agree that they represent the best these grapes have to offer. Both are $29.99. Let me know what you think.

We now have some of the best Cabernet Sauvignons in the state. Yes, the state.

Conn Creek, Markham , Bell and Roth. They are $39.99, $41.99, $39.99 and $49.99 respectively. I have had all of these and can recommend to anyone. Truly a wine that reflect all the texture, “mouthfullness” and pure delight that you expect from a great Cab. If you have a special occasion, any of these will be the hit of the dinner.

Additionally, we now have Wing Canyon Vineyards. They are makers of truly fine Cabernet Sauvignons. We have a 2000 ($29.99) and a 2001 ($47.99). The 2001 is outstanding (my personal favorite). Their Merlot, @ $33.99 is out of this world (for a Merlot!). If you like Cabs, this 2001 is for you. Rounding out the newest offerings are Cabernet Francs from Vinum, ‘The Scrapper” @ $39.99 and from Wm. Harrison @ $46.99. Both are elegant and rich. Enjoy with best friends and a great dinner.

Let us know what you think of our new selections. Stop by for a tasting. The wines open for tasting change frequently to keep it fresh. Our Wine Maker’s Tastings will begin Thursday June 15th. We will have a representative from the winery on hand pouring their wine and available for your questions. I am just securing the winery for the first night, so stay tuned.
